Tony Cragg: Sculptures and Drawings

Touring exhibition, Scotland, China and Taiwan, 2011-2013

This exhibition, organised by Holtermann Fine Art, presents fifty major sculptures by Tony Cragg and is the artist's first museum show in the UK in over ten years. Set in the museum's extensive parklands and sculpture gardens, it is a unique opportunity to experience Cragg's work against the natural landscape.

Over the past four decades, Cragg has pushed the formal boundaries of sculpture through an investigative and intuitive approach as well as a fascination for materials. He came to prominence in the 1970s for works composed of brightly coloured found objects, but since the 1980s he has worked extensively with other materials including bronze, wood, stainless steel and stone.

The exhibition focuses on Cragg's artistic production of the past fifteen years and enables visitors to understand the artist's formal explorations as well as the underlying themes of his oeuvre, including science, philosophy, poetry and the human figure.

After Edinburgh, this exhibition travelled to major museums in China and Taiwan as part of the British Council's 2012 culture festival UK Now.
